Winterreise

During the first dark winter months, Galerie Sehnsucht presents an exhibition with the poetic theme 'Winterreise'. I show a new flower still life in winter pastel shades. The Delft White work is part of my PRESERVED project that I started in early 2018. In this ongoing project I recreate flower still lifes from different style periods with found artificial second-hand flowers and materials from thrift stores. This still life in winter pastels is based on a jug (in the style of) 'Delft White' found in a thrift store in Delft. In addition to Delft Blue, Delft White pottery has always existed. Sources of inspiration for the flower still life were the 17th century painter Balthasar van der Ast, who lived in Delft for the last 25 years of his life, and the famous 'witjes' of the painter Jacob de Wit, playing puttis, painted pastel white on pastel white.
